Use it or lose it – Maximise your dental cover before the end of the year!
As 2023 comes to a close, it’s time to make the most of your health insurance dental benefits. Now’s the time to schedule your appointment with The Practice before the end of the calendar year.
Make the most of your dental benefits
Most dental insurance plans have a limit on how much you can claim annually – within a calendar year. Depending on your specific plan, you could be missing out on hundreds of dollars of savings as we approach the end of the year.
What’s the deadline?
Most dental plans in Australia go from 1 January to 31 December, a full calendar year. For calendar year plans, now is the time to visit The Practice website to book your dental treatment. If you book now it will give you enough time to receive more extensive dental treatments such as crowns and bridges.
What type of dental treatment should you prioritise?
A wide range of dental services are covered under health insurance plans, so it can be tricky to know which treatments to tackle first before your annual benefits expire. Certain treatments may be more urgent for restoring or maintaining your oral health. Others can be expensive, making it especially important to maximise your insurance coverage while you can.
We recommend speaking with your dentist to find out what you should prioritise. If you are a patient at The Practice, your dentist will be able to guide you through potential treatment options and let you know which is most urgent.
Some options for treatment include (depending on your dental insurance plan):
Fillings and crowns: Not only is it important to address fillings or crowns as soon as possible to ensure your condition doesn’t worsen, but it’s also your chance to maximise your savings before your benefits reset in the new year. Leaving this decay untreated increases the risk of dental pain, tooth loss and the need for more complex treatment in the future.
Teeth cleaning: Most dental insurance plans include two check-ups and cleans per year. Don’t miss out on the savings and book your clean before the end of the 2023.
X-rays: Dental X-rays help to diagnose potential issues that can’t be seen with the naked eye. If you or your dentist suspects a dental issue, you may be able to utilise benefits (depending on your plan) before the year ends.
Root canal treatment: If you have tooth pain, you could need root canal treatment. If your dentist recommends this dental procedure, you still have time to book it before your benefits run out on the 31st of December.
Dental implants: If your dentist has recommended a dental implant, you have time to book your appointment by the end of the year. If dental implants are covered under your dental insurance, you can book in for treatment ASAP.
Tooth extractions: Have you got a severely damaged tooth? Do you have wisdom teeth that need to be removed? If you do, don’t put off tooth extraction any longer and use up any remaining dental insurance coverage you have. (Check if your dental insurance covers tooth extraction.)
Orthodontics: We all know braces and clear aligners can be expensive and the treatment can be lengthy. If your dentist recommends orthodontics, starting treatment now means you can maximise benefits not only for this year but likely into 2023 as well. The sooner you begin realigning your teeth or correcting your bite, the sooner you’ll be able to enjoy a straightened, healthy smile for years to come.
