What is TMJ disorder?

Do you have jaw pain or restricted mouth movements? How about a clicking noise when you’re chewing? You may be suffering from TMJ disorder.

What is TMJ disorder?

TMJ stands for Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction and is associated with the dysfunction of the joint that connects your lower jaw to your skull. This dysfunction can have a significant impact on your life as it affects the joint that opens and closes your mouth and allows you to chew.

What are the symptoms of TMJ disorder?

TMJ dysfunction can cause significant pain and lead to headaches and ear pain. You may experience the following symptoms:

  • Pain in your jaw, especially when you’re eating.
  • The jaw locking, making it difficult to open or close your mouth.
  • Aching pain in front of your ear that spreads to your face.
  • A clicking noise when you open your mouth or chew.

During an examination your dentist can diagnose TMJ disorder.
